The Delhi bid team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games launched their information web-site today. The site – www.cwgdelhi2010.com – which contains the specific details of the Delhi bid proposal including its original bid document and first update newsletter, has been established to allow the Indian population and other supporters of the Delhi bid to be kept up to date as the final vote approaches.
It contains information on the highlights of the Delhi bid including how all aspects of the plan provide athletes with the best possible facilities and services, the integrated approach to staging the Games which will have the government departments who provide key services sitting as one with Organising Committee, its solid and unchanging sports programme, the competition-friendly weather and how the Games will be used to benefit not only India but the entire region which comprises almost three-quarters of the Commonwealth population.
‘After the high praise that the Delhi bid received from the Evaluation Commission, this further illustrates Delhi and India’s commitment to these Games’ commented Mr. Shri Suresh Kalmadi, President of the Indian Olympic Association and the head of the 2010 bidding team at the launch of the site. ‘It will allow the public and the Commonwealth as a whole to understand how important these Games are to India, to the entire region and ultimately to the future development of the Commonwealth Games movement, helping the Games spread beyond the traditional big four of Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Canada’
The launch of the web-site highlights India’s less recognised role as a developed nation which is a world leader in the IT software industry, one of the most advanced business industry sectors. Most major IT corporations now have significant operations in India utilising the advanced skills available within the country. ‘We will bring that same fresh approach and dedication that has allowed our IT industry to flourish to the staging of the Games, creating new standards for future Games organisers to follow’ said Kalmadi.
The decision on where the Games will be held will be made when the 72 Commonwealth nations meet in Jamaica for their General Assembly on November 13.
