Atlanta and Switzerland based Dartfish, the leader in sports media technology announced today that it has entered into an alliance with Sportvision, Inc to market, sell and operate Dartfish’s broadcast technology in North America.
The alliance is expected to generate new revenues for both companies by providing a wide array of exclusive technology enhancements for live sporting events.
Similar to Sportvision, Dartfish produces technology to enhance the sports experience in television broadcasts and through Internet applications. Sportvision will initially work with Dartfish’s patented SimulCam and StroMotion applications. These technologies will add to Sportvision’s existing line- up of virtual imaging products, such as the Emmy Award winning 1st and Ten electronic first down line marker for football.
‘We are delighted to partner with a company such as Dartfish,’ said Bill Squadron, CEO of Sportvision. ‘Their technology complements our products and we share a common vision, which is to create enhancements that provide a more fun and informative experience for the fans, and drive audience interest for networks and sports leagues.’
‘To work with a partner such as Sportvision who shares our vision is a fantastic opportunity to improve the level of service we will offer to our clients,’ said Jean-Marie Ayer, President of Dartfish Group. ‘The North American continent is a strategic key market for Dartfish and we are confident that partnering with Sportvision will be a rewarding experience.’
The patented SimulCam technology is used to show two athletes competing at different times but over the same terrain. The image is then merged onto one display with both athletes apparently competing together in a single image.
It has been used in broadcast enhancement of various prestigious sports events worldwide such as the Ski World Championship in Vail, 2001 Summer and Winter ESPN X Games, 2000 Sydney Olympics, and integrated into websites as an interactive Internet application.
The StroMotion application allows viewers to see an athletic movement unfold in time by compounding video images into a frame-by-frame sequence. This impressive enhancement displays a complete sequence of an athletic movement as well as the subtle changes that occur during the movement.
This technology has been widely used in figure skating. StroMotion is applicable over a broad range of sports and environments such as during live events and post production analysis on the Internet or a broadcast in addition to still images for print purposes.
