A total of € 700,000 has been given to the organisers of 24 international sports events taking place in Denmark 2009. The money has been earmarked international marketing, and is given to projects conceived by the organisers themselves.

Since September 2008 The Danish Year of Sport 2009 has funded 24 exciting international marketing projects for 24 Danish sports events in 2009. Among the events are the 121st IOC Session and XIII Congress in Copenhagen, the World Wrestling Championships 2009, The World Taekwondo Championships 2009 and the World Sports Dancing (Standard) Championships 2009. Also more unconventional events like the “Sport in the Cities – Sport for All Conference 2009” arranged among others by the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) and one of the worlds largest skateboard competitions, CPH PRO, have received funding.

– I’ve been happy to see that a wide selection of events during the Danish Year of Sport 2009 has interest in showing the rest of the world how we go about things in Denmark. That way we make sure that the message from the Danish Year of Sport reach as many people as people in as many sports as possible, says Christian Ankerstjerne, Project Manager for the Danish Year of Sport 2009.

The money, approximately € 700,000 is given to a wide array of projects, of which the IOC Congress is obviously the largest. At the IOC Congress the Year of Sport funds the press area, to name one thing. For the Danish Year of Sport 2009 it means that it will get the opportunity to get even more closely involved with the events.

– I’m really looking forward to start working together with the many very different events. For me the diversity in the events and the projects show the scope in the Danish Year of Sport 2009. Some organisers wants to invite journalists to the events and show them our country while they are here, others plan video production to make sure their events receive coverage while others plan something else entirely. The Danish Year of Sport 2009
In 2009 more than 50 major international sports events are taking place all over Denmark, including the IOC Olympic Session and the Olympic Congress. The World Taekwondo Championships, the UEFA Congress, the World Wrestling Championships and the LEN Congress are also among the many events taking place in Denmark.

Due to the many events the Danish Government has appointed the year 2009 as the Danish Year of Sport. The Year of Sport is part of a national effort to realise a vision of the Danish Government: to place Denmark firmly as one of Europe’s leading hosts of major international sports events and congresses.
