Denmark has waited 15 years to bring the World Badminton Championships back to Copenhagen, and if it were entirely up to the Danish organisers, it won’t be such a long wait until the event returns for the fifth time. An impressive and innovative event set-up has received positive praise from players, officials and the International Badminton Federation (BWF) alike during the event which culminated this weekend at the Ballerup Arena, Copenhagen.

The World Badminton Championships has been staged in Denmark four times ´- 1983, 1991, 1999 and 2014 – and as the curtain closes on a thrilling 2014 event, Danish organizers confirmed today that, if it were entirely their choice, Denmark won’t have to wait long to stage future World Badminton Championships.

QUOTES

Poul-Erik Høyer, president, BWF: "These Li-Ning BWF World Championships have showcased the best of badminton from across the globe and, once again, demonstrated what a wonderful blend of entertainment and suspense our sport provides.

We have seen some great storylines play out over the last seven days. It has been a truly compelling tournament with lots of surprises, right up until today’s finals. New stars have emerged on the world stage – reaching the latter phases of the tournament – while a number of seasoned competitors have proven their endurance and longevity.

Ballerup Super Arena has been superb for badminton and the crowds have created a fantastic atmosphere, especially over the weekend when tickets were sold out. We wish to commend the hosts, Badminton Denmark; Sport Event Denmark, all other Danish sponsors and the outstanding team of volunteers, for the warm hospitality and the way they have welcomed the badminton family to Copenhagen. It has been a world-class advertisement for our sport. Thank you to everyone who made this BWF Major Event a huge success."

Charlotte Malmroes, CEO, Badminton Denmark:

"I am extremely proud of this world-class event, staged to perfection by our organization and partners. We have set new standards for how to organize a great World Championship, and have created a spectacular show for spectators and viewers across the globe. At the same time, we have once again seen countless committed volunteers, without whom this event would not be possible." says Charlotte Malmroes, CEO, Badminton Denmark.

Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark:

"Denmark has once again delivered a brilliant World Championships, demonstrating how to present players and the sport to the spectators in the venue, and to the media. I dare say that we would like to bid for the event again, to be staged in the Royal Arena in Copenhagen in around 2021." says Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark that partners the Li-Ning BWF World Badminton Championships together with the host city and Badminton Denmark.
