Cricket World, the tri-annual cricket publication, and its associated website at www.cricketworld.com have become the fourth company in the UK to take advantage of the commercial space available on the back of a cricketer’s bat.

During the 1st Test against the Indians at Lord’s, Ashley Giles clearly carried the Cricket World logo on his bat as he made a fluent 19. Although Giles has not been selected to play in the 2nd Test starting today at Trent Bridge, he shall keep the logo on display during the 3rd and 4th Tests at Headingley and the Oval.

The three previous cricketers to be sponsored in this fashion are also clients of athletes1. Easter still sponsor Mark Butcher, PG Tips have teamed up with Alec Stewart and Craig White carried the Sunday Mirror’s logo during England’s tour to New Zealand last winter.

Giles will also contribute to Cricket World as part of the deal, on which David Ligertwood of athletes1, the sports management company that represents Giles, commented:

‘The commercial space on the back of a cricketer’s bat is generating more and more interest as potential sponsors see the valuable exposure it gives. We expect longer deals to become the trend, with companies targeting groups of cricketers and additional rights for increased exposure.’
