The West Indian fast bowler Courtney Walsh had Henry Olonga of Zimbabwe caught at short-leg by Wavel Hinds to claim his 435th wicket in Test Match cricket. Courtney Andrew Walsh was born on the 30th October 1962 in Kingston, Jamaica. He made his debut for the West Indies against Australia at Perth in 1984/5 and served his International apprenticeship alongside probably the greatest fast-bowling attacks the game has ever seen. Yesterday, at his home ground of Sabina Park, Kingston, he was playing his 114th Test Match in a career of remarkable consistency and stamina, including ten seasons for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. Walsh took three wickets in the innings to reduce Zimbabwe to 102 all out. The whole of Kingston was celebrating his achievements last night, as the West Indies are on the verge of a second successive victory against Zimbabwe. Walsh and his captain Jimmy Adams – who scored a tenacious unbeaten century in the West Indies’ first innings – will be hoping he can forge on towards the milestone of 500 Test wickets during this summer’s tour of England.
