Moving on to another seismic news in China sports community:

In the evening of Mar 15th, China’s state-run television, China Central Television (CCTV), criticized Nike, the world top sportswear company for alleged false advertisement. Overnight, the “Nike Zoom Air Scandal” spread across China. The annual CCTV show “315” brings counterfeits and false products to broad daylight at World Consumer Rights Day on March 15.

The CCTV show shined the light on a shopper who bought Nike shoes sold in China that didn’t include the advertised cushions: zoom air. When questioned by the shopper, the customer service of Nike acknowledged a sensational fact that the shoes indeed do not include cushions. Nike customer service agreed on full refunding though, the shopper still accused Nike of false advertising. According to relative Acts in China, Nike was supposed to give triple refunding as compensation.

And this is not the first time Nike being accused of false advertising in ignoring customer rights and interests. As early as 2011, it was found that “Hyperdunk 2011” Nike shoes sold in China were not equipped with cushions in the forefoot area compared to products sold in America.

Leading up to football sector, in expanding Chinese market, Nike spent 15 million dollars in 2009 to secure the sponsorship deal with CSL and in 2015 lavished 100 million RMB to sponsor China men’s national team which made for its dominance in China.

Hidden behind the exuberance is at times crisis. New CSL season kicked off and another piece of news drew much attention: To date, Nike has not yet got referee uniforms in place for 2017 CSL season, all referees are still now wearing uniforms provided in 2016 season. CSL has, from the very beginning, requested what was agreed, but still Nike sat on the issue. CSL has no choice but have to clothe referees with 2016 season uniforms. When new uniforms will be in place is unknown, some sources say it is possibly before the start of the 3rd round of CSL games.

Those unfavorable news impaired Nike’s reputation and image in China. If Nike doesn’t make any changes, will it influence its future cooperation with CSL and China men’s national team?
