Celtic Rugby tournament organiser Keith Grainger today (Wednesday, 24 September) confirmed that BBC Northern Ireland will broadcast the Celtic Cup quarter-final between Ulster and Leinster Lions live from Ravenhill starting at 7.35pm on Friday, 3 October.
This means that all four of the Celtic Cup quarter-finals will be broadcast live over that weekend – Llanelli Scarlets v Connacht (BBC Wales, Friday, 3 October – 7.05pm), Glasgow Rugby v Munster (TG4, Friday, 3 October – 7.30pm), Edinburgh Rugby v Cardiff Blues (S4C, Saturday, 4 October – 5.30pm).
‘This is great news for the Celtic Cup competition, which will reach its climax in a final match due to be shown live on BBC Grandstand on Saturday, 20 December,’ said Grainger.
‘The draw for the quarter-finals was made in such a way as to ensure a minimum of one home game in each of the three countries and all four matches should provide great challenges. Cardiff Blue’s return trip to Edinburgh will give the home side a chance to avenge their quarter-final defeat at Meadowbank last season, while the Belfast match-up between Ulster and Leinster Lions will ensure at least one Irish province will reach the last four as they try to maintain their dominance of the knock-out tournament.’
Further good news for the Celtic Rugby tournaments is that Scottish TV will be screening an extended one-hour, Sunday rugby highlights programme, Scotsport Rugby Round Up, which will include extended highlights of Celtic League and Cup action this will include action from all four Celtic Cup quarter-final ties on Sunday, 5 October.
