The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is excited to announce that Total Oil Asia-Pacific (Total) is title sponsor of the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships 2019 in Basel, Switzerland, in celebration of Total’s fifth year in partnership with the BWF.

Having inaugurated the partnership in 2015, this news reinforces Total’s continued support of badminton, and its commitment to the valued long-term partnership with the BWF.

In 2018, the BWF extended its partnership with Total as Official Energy Partner of the World Tour and title sponsor of BWF Major Championships up until 2021.

This year, we look forward to delivering the 25th edition of the BWF World Championships in Basel, Switzerland, which for the first time is being held in conjunction with the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships.

BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer said: “We are delighted to have Total on board for both championships as we strive to completely integrate Para badminton into the whole badminton family.

“Para badminton as a sport is now in a very strong position as we build towards the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. We look forward to celebrating this milestone and creating awareness around our Para badminton development initiatives for the foreseeable future.

“Our partnerships are central to this success and we are delighted to have extended our relationship with Total as Official Energy Partner for the World Tour and title sponsor for BWF Major Championships to 2021.

“We especially look forward to celebrating our five years together at the TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup 2019 next month in Nanning, China,” he said.

In 2015, Total became the first global energy company to partner with the BWF in a multi-million-dollar partnership to promote badminton and both brands’ footprints in the Asia-Pacific region and globally, through shared core principles of equal opportunity, local integration and continued innovation.

The company’s commitment to badminton is underpinned by the association of its key values with the performance, precision and endurance showcased in the sport. With interest in badminton growing globally, the success of the partnership has led both parties to ink an extension to 2021.

Christian Cabrol, President and CEO of Total, Asia Pacific & Middle East, added: “Through our sponsorship of the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships, Total seeks to raise the visibility of the Para badminton platform, and demonstrate that badminton is a sport that is accessible to all.

“We are proud to deepen our support and association with one of the region’s most popular sports and believe our partnership together has reaped a significant increase in brand engagement.”
