The Bundesliga has expanded its eFootball tournaments into Asia again this season, with the new Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) International Series held in Malaysia and India the latest competitions to provide international challengers for the upcoming VBL International Final in Germany.

Between 30 and 31 March over 10 hours of Bundesliga eFootball action was broadcast on Fox Sports, Astro Arena and eGG networks across South-East Asia, with FOX Sports host John Dykes commentating on eSports for the first time.

Viewers were able to follow Thailand’s ‘Wisumat’ guide his 1. FC Nürnberg side to victory in the VBL International Series South-East Asia Qualifier. Wisuwat won a total prize money of 5,000 Ringit (1,000 EUR) at the event which took place at the Battle Arena, Petaling Jaya in Kuala Lumpur. He will now represent South-East Asia at the VBL International Final which will take place in Germany in May.

Setup in cooperation with Bundesliga Media Partner FOX Sports and streaming platform eGG Network, the South-East Asia International Series Qualifier welcomed FIFA eFootball professionals and qualifiers from four regional online tournaments. These included players from Malaysia, Indonesia, East Timor, Brunei, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar, Laos and Thailand.

The Bundesliga’s eFootball focus now turns to India where it has teamed up with the Asian Football Gaming Championship (AFGC) for the first ever combined VBL International Series Qualifier and AFGC Qualifier in India.

Staged and managed by AFGC and Sports Roots, the tournament will feature FIFA 19 players from New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata competing to play in the VBL International Final and the AFGC International Finals.

Regional qualifiers will take place in Bengaluru on 6 April, New Delhi on 7 April, Mumbai on 14 April and in Kolkata on 20 April, the latter also the place and date for the final of the VBL International Series Indian Qualifier.

The events follow successful Bundesliga eFootball competitions held in Chile and Malaysia last season.
