Tennis fans have an added bonus this month with British Eurosport winning the ‘After Hours’ rights to the world’s greatest tennis tournament. British Eurosport will show Wimbledon highlights every evening from 11:15pm, giving tennis fans an excuse to stay longer in the pub, yet still not miss any of the day’s action.
Only one cable / satellite operator is allowed to broadcast highlights of Wimbledon in addition to the BBC, in this case British Eurosport. British Eurosport is now ‘the’ Grand Slam Tennis Channel with action from the Australian and French Opens and now Wimbledon.
British Eurosport has scheduled the highlights programme for 11:15pm to purposely compensate viewers who cannot watch the early evening highlights programme on the BBC. The highlights are also repeated the following morning to whet the appetites for the day’s play.
Simon Reed, British Eurosport’s Senior Tennis Commentator will present the programme direct from Wimbledon, with Jo Durie and Chris Bradnam adding their insights for both the men’s and ladies finals.
‘This is great news for tennis fans’, said Neil Oughton, Head of Broadcasting at British Eurosport.
‘Now viewers will be able to carry on with their everyday lives and not rush home to catch the early evening action on terrestrial TV. We are offering a second option with late night highlights, repeated the following morning for
all those who had missed them the night before and die-hard tennis fans’.
Eurosport.co.uk will also have LIVE scoring of every match, exclusive interviews and features, and a full round-up of all the results.
With 27 WTA tournaments, 16 ATP tournaments and 3 Grand Slams, British Eurosport has over 850 hours of tennis programming this year. Tennis continues over the summer following Wimbledon with the US hard-court tournaments and action from the Swiss Open in Gstaad and the Austrian Open
in Kitzbuhel.
