The FIVB has decided to simplify the presentation of its rankings and to introduce a new ‘World Tour Ranking’ starting with the first event of the season. These changes concern both
men’s and women’s competitions.
This new presentation is available on the FIVB website:

The World Tour Ranking is based on the current team’s points and prize money distribution of the World Tour, and will lead to the awarding of the World Tour 2000 Champion teams (women and men) by a special Trophy given at the last events of the season. The updating starts after the first events (men’s Argentina Open already played on Jan. 12-18. and women’s
Brazil Open to be played on Feb. 1-6), and will finish after the last events.
The Technical Players’ Ranking show the World Tour points individually accumulated by the players in the last 365 days.
The Technical Teams’ Ranking (entries and seeding) collect the individual data from Technical Players’ Rankings to show the teams’ data. The teams’ points total (in the last 365 days) are used to determine the entries in the Main Draws, while the teams’ ranking averages (based on both players’ ranking averages in the last 5 events), are used to seed the teams in the Opens.
At the end of the season, both the World Tour ranking and Technical ranking will coincide, except for those teams who have changed partners during the course of the season.
The Olympic Qualification Ranking is based on the 8 best teams’ finishes in the World Tour made between Jan. 1st, 1999 and Aug. 15, 2000. After this deadline, the ranking – taking into consideration the country quota of a maximum of 2 teams (up to 3 for the host nation, Australia) – will determine the 24 women’s and 24 men’s teams qualified for Sydney 2000.
