BBC Worldwide will once again be distributing the international TV rights to the Flora London Marathon to be run on 22 April 2001.

A world-class field has already been assembled for this year’s race and will feature the current World Record holder Khalid Khannouchi (USA), as well as the current World Marathon Champion, Abel Anton (Spain). Both men
will be competing to take the title from last year’s winner, Antonio Pinto (Portugal).

The Women’s race will be equally competitive, with Lidia Simon(Romania)and Joyce Chepchumba (Kenya), the Olympic silver and bronze medallists, set to rival the current Flora London Marathon Champion, Tegla Loroupe (Kenya).

Last year, BBC Worldwide licensed pictures of the event to 178 countries and this year’s race has already attracted a number of leading international broadcasters who are taking live pictures of the race on Sunday, 22 April (07.55 – 10.45 GMT).

Spring 2001 marks an increasingly busy period for the Sports Sales division at BBC Worldwide, who will also be distributing the Oxford/Cambridge University Boat Race (24 March), The Grand National (7 April) and the Silk Cut Rugby League Challenge Cup Final (28 April).
