7 February 2001, SINGAPORE: Award-winning sports journalist Eric Young has joined Sportsline, ESPN STAR Sports’ daily sports news programme. ESS launched Sportsline in September 2000. It is broadcast on the STAR Sports India network.

Eric Young’s appointment boosts the strength of the Sportsline team: he joins veteran ESS presenter John Dykes and former Indian national squash player Misha Grewel to present viewers with the latest international and regional sporting news from an Indian perspective. The programme is broadcast LIVE three times a day.

The New Zealand-born journalist is a veteran of sports reporting, with more than 20 years experience in radio, print and television. He has been both the New Zealand Sports Writer of the Year and the New Zealand Sports Broadcaster of the Year.

Young was the Auckland Star’s cricket and rugby league writer for six years. He then switched to broadcast journalism, presenting 3 National News for TV3.

Moving to Australia, Young joined Optus Vision’s sports network, Sports Australia as a cricket and rugby league commentator.

In 1999 Young returned to New Zealand to host the critically acclaimed Tight 5, and Game of Two Halves. During this time he also presented Television New Zealand’s weekend sports news, the highest rating segment of the highest rating news in the country. In September 2000 Young hosted TVNZ’s daytime Olympics coverage.
