Former Australian schoolboy flyer Marty Schliebs has been added to the Ricoh Australian Sevens squad, which heads to Hong Kong next week for the famous Hong Kong Sevens. Schliebs caught the eye of coach Glen Ella at the Kiama Sevens tournament last month and has replaced Tim Lough in the squad. Otherwise, the team is unchanged from the line-up which came within a whisker of beating Fiji in the final of the Brisbane World Sevens Rugby tournament last month. “Marty Schliebs is very quick and to my mind was the most impressive player at the Kiama tournament. He joins a team that has acquired a great sense of self belief since they beat New Zealand 17-0 in Brisbane. These guys believe they can win in Hong Kong.” Schliebs was a member of the undefeated 1998/99 Australian Schoolboys team which toured Canada, Ireland and the UK. He joins fellow schoolboy tourist Tim Donnelly in the Sevens squad. Schliebs scored six tries on the schoolboy tour. Other members of that schoolboy team are also doing well, with David Lyons, Tui Talaia and Jono West in the Waratah squad and George Smith with the Brumbies.
