Singapore, January 18: The Asian Tour will organise a Tsunami Relief Fund Pro-Am at Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course here on January 31 (Monday) where proceeds will go towards the international humanitarian relief efforts

Asian Tour Chief Executive Louis Martin said today the Asian Tour players were deeply moved by the tragedy and initiated the charity drive after thousands of people were devastated by the Tsunami that struck parts of the region on December 26.

‘We are expecting a full field for the Asian Tour Tsunami Relief Fund Pro-Am where each team will donate a minimum of S$5,000. Many of our Asian Tour members feel that the charity Pro-Am is the best way to contribute towards the victims of this catastrophe and all proceeds will go towards the Tsunami relief efforts of the Red Cross,’ said Martin.

The format of play will be Fourball Alliance, with the pro’s score and the nett best amateur score to count for the team using the Stableford scoring system. Each team will consist of one professional and three amateur golfers. Tee off is 1.00pm (shot-gun start) while golf clinics by the Asian Tour professionals will be conducted in the morning for the participants.

‘Several of our sponsors and friends of the Asian Tour have already pledged their support towards this event and we hope that Corporate Singapore will also provide their backing in this charity drive.

‘The Asian Tour will also accept monetary contributions from our playing membership as well as from companies and Tour sponsors. Our players also hope that the Tsunami Relief Fund Pro-Am will be the start of other similar initiatives within the Asian golfing fraternity to raise funds and help lessen some of the burden faced by those affected by the disaster,’ said Martin.
