The Asian Badminton Confederation (ABC) has confirmed that the 3rd Asia Cup, to be held in Singapore from 2-6 May, will be the most lucrative event on the world badminton calendar.

The 2001 Asia Cup, which is a men’s team event (2 singles, 1 doubles), has a total prize fund of US$170,000 with the winning team set to take home a massive $80,000, or $20,000 per player – higher than any current individual event.

Indonesia has won the past two editions of the competition (in Jakarta in 1997 and Ho Chi Mihn City in 1999), and are widely tipped to take the cup home for the third consecutive time.

Eight teams will contest the Cup – Indonesia, China, Korea, Malaysia, India, Singapore, Thailand and either Hong Kong or Chinese Taipei.
