The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has awarded Denmark the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships 2024. The championships will be staged in September in Aalborg, which also hosted the same event in 2015.

The  International Federation has decided to award Denmark the hosting rights for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships 2024.

“For Denmark as a cycling nation, it is important that we can attract and host elite and mass participation events. We have a fantastic club culture with a lot of volunteers that make staging the events possible.  And, with our valuable partners, Aalborg and Sport Event Denmark we look forward to the iconic rainbow jerseys once again awarded to the winners in Denmark,” says Henrik Jess Jensen, president of the Danish Cycling Federation.

Simultaneously with the awarding of the championships  for amateurs, the UCI also awarded the 2025 UCI BMX World Championships  to Copenhagen, which makes the DCU chairman both very happy and proud.

UCI President David Lappartient declared: “We are very pleased to award two events to Denmark, the 2025 UCI BMX World Championships in Copenhagen and the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Aalborg. Fourteen years after their 2011 edition, the BMX World Championships return to Copenhagen, a city that holds the UCI Bike City label in recognition of its remarkable investment in cycling. Its organiser is very experienced, with the UCI Track and Cyclo-cross World Championships to its credit. As for Aalborg, the city has solid credentials in organising mass events. I would like to thank Denmark, one of the leading countries in the promotion of cycling.”
