The scene is set when the UCI Track World Championships 2010 begins on 24 March in Ballerup Super Arena. HRH Crown Prince Frederik and Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen are both making a speech and Julie Bertelsen is entertaining with her beautiful singing.

The Danish Cycling Federation’s Jesper Worre, who is main responsible for the staging of the event 24 – 28 march, says: “We do realize that, compared to the latest two UCI World Cups we have staged, the UCI demands are higher now that a World Championship is at stake. The audience in the Ballerup Super Arena is in for sport on an extremely high level all five days”.

Further to the above mentioned two prominent speakers, Julie Bertelsen is entertaining at the opening ceremony with her great hit, Shout, and with the Danish national hymn. In the opening procession, each participating nation is represented by a Danish rider, who has taken medals at previous World Championships or Olympic Games, either on the track or on the road.

Like the other four event days, the opening day is likely to present world class top sport. Saturday 24 March, the women’s 500 m time trial finals are run as well as the women’s individual pursuit. Besides, on 24 March the men’s spectacular team sprint takes place, presenting the superstar, Chris Hoy, but also the men’s points race, where Denmark’s Daniel Kreutzfeldt has a silver medal from 2009 to defend.

The UCI Track World Championships 2010 in Denmark is part of Bike City Copenhagen, BCC, which HRH and newly elected IOC-member, Crown Prince Frederik is protector for.
