Madrid, May 31st 2005  

The city of Madrid continues with the preparations for the big popular celebration in support of the Madrid 2012 Olympic bid which will take place on the next June 5th. A neon sign composed of the bid logo, the five Olympic rings and the “Madrid 2012 Ciudad Candidata” (Candidate City) motto shines in the façade of the “Palacio de Comunicaciones” (Communications Palace) main tower. The sign will be switched on until July 6th, when the name of the city which will be awarded the 2012 Olympic Games will be announced.

During this week of celebrations, three remarkable buildings of the city are being illuminated with the colours of the Olympic bid. The three chosen landmarks are the “Puerta de Alcala”, whose luminous decoration will be switched off today, the “Biblioteca Nacional” (May 31st and June 1st) and the “Palacio de Comunicaciones” (June 3rd and 4th).

On June 5th Madrid will live a unique celebration whose motto “Passion for Madrid!” represents the vocation of all the Madrid citizens for being awarded the Olympic Games. Shakira’s concert at the “Puerta de Alcala” will be the perfect finale for this big popular party.
