The owners of the Connecticut Sun, of women's basketball's WNBA, have agreed to sell the franchise, which will move to Houston, Texas, in 2027.
The new owners are the family of Tilman J. Fertitta, the current owner of the NBA's Houston Rockets (as well as a TV personality and the US ambassador to Italy).

The Sun, who are currently owned by the Mohegan native American tribe, will continue to play in Connecticut during the 2026 season, before moving to Texas next year, it has now been confirmed. The tribe first began seriously assessing potential buyers last season, with reports of the Fertitta family's interest first noted in December.
The team has played in Connecticut since 2003 (when the tribe purchased the franchise, which, up until then, had been the Orlando Miracle, playing in Florida), but will be renamed the Houston Comets eventually, it has been reported. They currently play at the Mohegan Sun Arena in the community of Uncasville.
ESPN has reported that the Fertitta family has bought the franchise for around $300 million.
Houston, as a city, had first looked at buying a WNBA expansion franchise, but a trio of slots were then allocated to Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia, instead.
The Sun have never before won the WNBA, but have lost in the WNBA Finals four times, most recently in 2022.
The 2026 WNBA regular season begins on May 8 and runs through September 24.
