NBCUniversal (NBCU), the US media giant owned by telecoms company Comcast, will continue its long-standing coverage of golf tournaments organized by the US Golf Association (USGA) governing body after renewing its rights deal until 2032.

Under the new deal, which begins in 2027 after the current contract expires, NBC will remain the exclusive broadcaster of the USGA’s three professional events – the US Open, US Women’s Open, and US Senior Open – with streaming service Peacock to provide simultaneous coverage of all USGA programming airing on NBC and providing exclusive streaming coverage of the US Open and US Women’s Open.

As part of the deal, Comcast’s upcoming spin-off cable network Versant will acquire media rights to the USGA championships for the USA Network and Golf Channel channels through 2032.

Specifically, USA Network will air the US Open and US Women’s Open, while the Golf Channel will provide coverage of the US Senior Open, US Senior Women’s Open, US Amateur, US Women’s Amateur, US Junior Amateur, US Girls’ Junior, US Adaptive Open, Walker Cup, and Curtis Cup events.

USGA chief executive Mike Whan said: “We’re incredibly proud of the partnership we’ve built over the years with NBCU and Versant, and we’re equally excited to continue building on that legacy through our shared passion and dedication – alongside people we’re proud to call our friends.

“The value NBCU and Versant place on the USGA brand is evident, and this agreement enables the USGA to further advance our mission to positively impact the game, while providing the most expansive coverage and broadest reach to showcase USGA championships.”

The deal comes weeks after it was announced that NBC Sports’ coverage of golf’s iconic British Open delivered the tournament’s strongest US ratings since the landmark 150th edition in 2022.

The deal extends NBC’s relationship with the USGA, which first started in 1995. Fox Sports took over the rights in 2015 as part of a 12-year deal that only lasted five years before they returned to NBC.

The rights add to NBCU’s portfolio of top-tier sports rights, which includes basketball’s NBA, English soccer’s Premier League, the 2026 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament (via Spanish-language network Telemundo), American football’s NFL, and golf’s PGA Tour.

The broadcaster also holds US rights to six Olympic Games through 2036 and has recently renewed its rights for USA Track and Field, USA Swimming, USA Gymnastics, and World Aquatics as the country prepares to host the next 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

NBC Sports president Rick Cordella has said: “The USGA has been an important partner of ours for most of the last 30 years, and we’re extraordinarily proud of our relationship with their leadership team.

“We have built something incredibly special with the U.S. Open on NBC. We look forward to further advancing and enhancing our coverage of the US Open, US Women’s Open, and US Senior Open across NBC and Peacock through 2032.”
