The Washington Capitals, of North American ice hockey’s NHL, have struck the first jersey sponsorship deal in the league for the 2022-23 season, announcing a multi-year partnership with Caesars Entertainment

The Caesars Sportsbook logo will feature on both the home and third Capitals’ kits during the 2022-23 campaign for games played at the team’s Capital One Arena.

The NHL’s jersey advertising program only begins with the 2022-23 campaign, allowing teams to secure up to two jersey sponsors – one each for home and away jerseys – meaning this deal represents the first-ever jersey sponsorship arrangement struck by a franchise.

Caesars' branding will be present on the upper right chest area of the jersey for the duration of the partnership.

Caesars has also secured a hospitality package and VIP seating at Capital One Arena, in an extension of an existing partnership between the sportsbook and Monumental Sports Entertainment, the organisation which owns the arena.

The Capitals have said they will introduce an away jersey sponsor “at a later date.”

Jim Van Stone, president of business operations and chief commercial officer at Monumental Sports & Entertainment (which owns the Capital Arena), has said: “We are thrilled to introduce Caesars Sportsbook as the Capitals' inaugural home jersey advertising partner in a first-of-its-kind partnership.

“The opportunity to incorporate Caesars onto Capitals home jerseys is a wonderful development and exciting new fan engagement opportunity.”

Chris Holdren, co-president of Caesars Digital, added: “We are proud to extend our historic partnership with such a storied franchise after launching the sportsbook at Capital One Arena.”

MSE and Caesars collaborated to open a Caesars Sportsbook at the Capital One Arena in May. The facility at that point became the first-ever sports betting venue to open within a US professional sports facility.
