The New Zealand Rugby (NZR) governing body has today announced a new, multi-year, sponsorship deal with insurance firm Gallagher.

Through the agreement, that US-based company becomes the official insurance broker of NZR, with the brand's logo now set to appear on both the training and match day shorts of all NZR’s representative national teams, including the men's All Blacks, women's Black Ferns, Māori All Blacks, and Sevens teams.

Gallagher Insurance branding will feature prominently on player shorts across multiple global match days each year, while a “robust” schedule of fan activations is also planned.

In addition, the insurance company will work alongside NZR on local community initiatives, becoming a regional partner of multiple All Blacks Clinics a year, and also becomes the jersey partner for New Zealand referees across all domestic competitions from 2026, including Super Rugby Pacific, Sky Super Rugby Aupiki, and Bunnings Warehouse Provincial Rugby.

Gallagher has also signed All Blacks player Beauden Barrett as a global ambassador.

The company becomes the second sponsor to take on the assets relinquished by British petrochemical giant Ineos, which pulled out of its six-year sponsorship with NZR halfway through the deal.

The Ineos agreement, signed in 2021 and worth a reported $4.5 million per year, was due to cover the 2022 to 2027 period, with Ineos branding appearing on the back of playing shorts and on the front of training jerseys for the men’s and women’s senior sides, as well as the New Zealand Māori team and New Zealand sevens team.

Last month, Japanese automobile company Toyota signed a multimillion-dollar sponsorship agreement with NZR to feature its branding across training jerseys and various training kit for all New Zealand national teams as part of a three-year deal.

In April, NZR finally reached a settlement agreement with Ineos following their dispute over the early termination.

Mark Robinson, CEO of New Zealand Rugby, has said: “This is a partnership that reflects the scale, ambition, and passion for rugby both our organizations have. We couldn’t be more excited to align with Gallagher Insurance, who already have deep expertise in elite sport, along with a key business focus in New Zealand and globally.

“This partnership helps solidify where we’re heading, not just with our teams on-field, but as a sporting brand off the field too.”

The deal deepens Gallagher’s presence in rugby, with a title sponsorship of England’s top-tier Premiership its most notable deal.

The firm agreed a renewal with that league last year that will begin with the 2025-26 season and run through the 2027-28 campaign, taking the partnership between the two parties to a decade.
