This hosting deal, struck with the South Australian Government and the City of Adelaide, will run through the 2032 season, with the circuit designed to reference the Adelaide street circuit that hosted Formula 1 motor racing between 1985 and 1995.

Speaking on the deal, MotoGP chief sporting officer Carmelo Ezpeleta commented: “Bringing MotoGP to Adelaide marks a major milestone in the evolution of our championship. This city has a world‑class reputation for hosting major sporting events, and the opportunity to design a purpose‑built circuit in the city streets is something truly unique in our sport.

"Adelaide’s commitment to major events makes it the perfect home for MotoGP’s next chapter in Australia. We’re incredibly excited to showcase a new style of racing here and to create a true celebration of our sport that brings fans even closer to the action.

South Australia premier Peter Malinauskas added: “This is a major coup for South Australia and yet more evidence our state has real momentum. “We are now competing with the rest of the nation for the world’s best events – and winning.

“Hosting the world’s first MotoGP race on a street circuit will give Adelaide a truly unique offering that is sure to attract visitors from interstate and overseas.”

In terms of other sporting events held around Adelaide, the city annually hosts the LIV Golf Tour property, the UCI Tour Down Under road cycling race, Australia’s Supercars Championship Clipsal 500, international cricket at the Adelaide Oval, and more, while also boasting seasonal sports teams in cricket, soccer, netball, basketball, and rugby league.

All this means that the 2026 edition of the Australian Grand Prix will be the last held at Phillip Island, which has hosted a stage in every edition of grand prix motorcycle racing’s top category since 1997 (bar 2020 and 2021, when the race was cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic).

The most recent edition, held in October 2025, was title sponsored by German automotive lubricants brand Liqui Moly.
