Amazon Prime Video, the live streaming division of the global retail giant, has secured domestic rights in Italy to the next three seasons of the Serie B second-tier soccer league through an agreement with Helbiz Media, the US-based OTT platform which is the exclusive worldwide distributor of those rights.

The deal, announced yesterday, gives Amazon Italy the right to broadcast Serie B action, and other Helbiz Media-owned content, to Italian customers across all devices and platforms until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Through a monthly subscription to Helbiz Live, Amazon Prime customers in Italy will be able to stream all matches from both the regular Serie B season and the season-ending playoffs, for the next three campaigns.

The service will go live on Amazon Prime’s various platforms and sites “in the coming weeks”, the two parties have said.

Matteo Mammi, chief executive of Helbiz Media, said: “This partnership with Amazon represents a significant step for Helbiz Live … It will allow an alternative way of streaming exclusive Helbiz Live content, such as the Serie B championship.”

Earlier this week, Helbiz secured Fox Networks Group as a broadcast partner for Serie B across the US and the Caribbean, also in a three-year agreement.

This marks Helbiz Media’s first partnership in North America, as well as the first time Serie B will be offered in the region.

Fox will provide live broadcast coverage of Serie B matches, as well as game highlights, for the next three seasons. Under the terms of the deal, Fox will broadcast three Serie B games per week live with English commentary.

In August, meanwhile, Kosmos, the sports and media investment group headed up by Barcelona star Gerard Pique, acquired distribution rights to Serie B in Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, the Balkans, and Latin America(excluding Brazil), through a deal with Helbiz.

Helbiz first secured international sales and distribution rights for Serie B from a broadcast point of view in June this year. It will live-stream the games itself, in countries such as the US and Canada where it has an OTT platform set up and will sell the rights onto other broadcasters or streaming services in markets where it does not have that direct presence.

In countries where Helbiz Live is available, Serie B matches will be included in the Helbiz Unlimited subscription.

The deal covers over 390 games per year until the summer of 2024.
