The Hexagon Cup padel event will serve as the first official tournament of the new Hexagon World Series (HWS), with international insurance company Generali Group named as title sponsor.

The tournament will take place in Madrid from January 21 to 24, 2027, and will again be hosted at Madrid’s Caja Mágica after it staged the competition last year.

The event will be the first fully sanctioned teams event within the new global series.

It was announced in December last year that the Hexagon Cup, originally a team competition backed by a range of global sporting stars, will turn into a worldwide circuit of events.

Up until this point, the Hexagon Cup – which held its first edition in early 2024 – has been a short single tournament taking place each year in Madrid but will change, thanks to a partnership struck by the event's organizers with the International Padel Federation (FIP) governing body, and with worldwide sports and entertainment agency 54.

54, involved in the creation of the controversial LIV Golf rebel series a few years ago, invested and partnered with Hexagon Cup to launch HWS.

This will become the first team padel series to be launched under the FIP's governance and will be integrated into the body's calendar.

The series will take place alongside the existing Premier Padel circuit (played by pairs, not teams), and will add multiple events per year across new international locations.

HWS was originally slated to begin in 2026 but was pushed back to next year, which the organizers said was due to “the international scale and ambition of Hexagon World Series, together with the work required to build a robust and sustainable structure across multiple markets.”

Additional locations on the 2027 calendar will be announced “in the coming months”, along with details on the teams, players, and expansion of the schedule.

The event format for next season will also move from five to four competition days.

Generali returns as title sponsor for the second consecutive year after taking on the role for this year's Hexagon Cup.

Sergio Lewin, co-founder and operations and sporting managing director of Hexagon Cup, said: “Hexagon World Series represents a highly ambitious evolution of everything we started with Hexagon Cup.

“Building an international circuit of this scale takes time, a strong foundation and close collaboration between many different stakeholders. Madrid is where it all began, and we couldn’t imagine a better place to officially launch this new chapter in January 2027.”

Late last year, Hexagon Cup closed an investment round that involved companies such as UK-based Padel Hub and US-centric Epic Padel, as well as the athlete-based Players Fund platform, in addition to 54.

The sport's authorities are currently attempting to boost padel's chances of being included in the Olympic program and will hope that this addition of a top-tier teams-based series is a step towards doing that.
