Formula 1 (F1) elite motor racing action will continue to take place annually on the streets of Monaco, one of that sport's most iconic destinations, through 2035.

An extension from 2031 through 2035 has been announced today, following on from a six-year tie-up – starting following this year's event – that was unveiled last November.

Before that agreement with the Automobile Club of Monaco was made, the previous deal was due to expire following the conclusion of the 2025 F1 campaign.

Stefano Domenicali, president and chief executive at Formula 1, has now said: "The streets of Monaco have been echoing with the sound of Formula 1 since the earliest days of the sport, so I’m delighted to announce the extension of this fantastic event to 2035.

“It is an iconic race that is loved by all drivers and fans, with a unique vibe thanks to its location on the world’s most glamorous Principality."

Next year, the Monaco Grand Prix (the 75th anniversary of that race's debut) will take place between May 23 and 25, while from 2026 onwards the iconic event will be held across the first full weekend of June each year – a departure from its traditional late-May slot, albeit one that means the race will no longer clash with the Indianapolis 500 IndyCar race in the US, another prestigious motor racing event.

Monaco has hosted F1 action since 1950 and has been an ever-present circuit on the calendar since 1955.

F1 has said that the 2024 edition of the race – won by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (originally from the principality) – was watched by a cumulative audience of over 70 million.

Michel Boeri, the Automobile Club of Monaco's president, added: "The Automobile Club de Monaco is delighted with this four-year extension, which reflects the strong and enduring relationship between Formula 1 and the Principality of Monaco.

“This agreement reaffirms, more than ever, our commitment to delivering an exceptional, unmatched, and world-renowned race weekend to the passionate fans who travel from all over the globe to attend the Monaco Grand Prix, first held in 1929."

While the last few years – with F1 cars growing steadily larger, and overtaking opportunities on Monaco's tight course having significantly decreased – have led to multiple calls for the circuit to be altered, the layout is not expected to change for the next seven years, it has been reported.

In terms of other F1 circuits to have recently extended their hosting rights contract, late June saw the Austrian Grand Prix retain its place on the calendar through 2041, after an 11-year extension was signed.

The 2025 F1 season continues on Sunday, September 7, with the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
