Airbnb, the online accommodation booking service, has announced a three-year partnership with the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes, the prestigious men’s and women’s road cycling tours, as it looks to boost its business across rural France.

The partnership, struck with race organizer Amaury Sports Organization, will run through the 2027 editions and see Airbnb promote rentals along the 3,339-kilometer Tour de France route that spans multiple countries.

It will also offer related experiences such as rides with former cyclists, including Britain’s Mark Cavendish, as well as hosting meet-and-greets and cycling masterclasses during both events.

Airbnb said the new deal will build on its success at last year’s Paris Olympic Games, which saw 700,000 bookings delivered during the event.

It also has a partnership with the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee, signed in 2019 and extended in 2023.

Under that deal, the business provided athletes with the opportunity to apply for a $2000 grant to cover their travel and accommodation expenses as they train and compete in preparation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The new Tour de France tie-up comes as part of Airbnb’s global expansion strategy amid falling demand in the US due to President Donald Trump’s trade policies and a backlash against the business in tourism hotspots across Europe.

The hostile response by locals against Airbnb has recently seen the Spanish government block more than 65,000 holiday rental listings on its service in densely populated cities.

Airbnb’s focus on underserved rural areas highlights a shift away from cities amid restrictions.

This year’s Tour de France runs from July 5 to 27, while the Tour de France Femmes starts on July 26 and ends on August 3.
