Etihad Airways, the Emirati airline, has agreed to a deal with Extreme E, the international SUV electric motor racing series that launched this year, to carry the series’ Climate Changers magazine show on its E-Box in-flight entertainment service.

Etihad passengers will be able to choose to watch the documentary programme from hundreds of hours of content available via the system, which makes use of touchscreen and wireless technology.

Climate Changers explains the inception of Extreme E and the climate science behind the motivation for it, provides behind-the-scenes insights about the creation and development of the series, features people behind the series and shows action from its races.

The five-event Extreme E season began in April with the Desert X Prix in Alula, Saudi Arabia, and then moved onto the Ocean X Prix in Dakar, Senegal, and the Arctic X Prix in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland.

The next event is the Island X Prix in Sardinia, Italy, on 23 and 24 October, while the destination for the final race has yet to be announced.

Ali Russell, chief marketing officer at Extreme E, said: “As one of the world’s youngest and most respected airlines, we are delighted that Etihad has chosen one of Extreme E’s magazine shows for its prestigious in-flight entertainment package.

“Our sport for purpose championship has so many fascinating stories to tell – everything from the creation of the incredible Odyssey 21 race car to life on our ocean centrepiece, the St. Helena [ship]. These programmes add so much additional depth to the championship and extend the conversation outside of the racing itself and I’m confident this will entertain Etihad’s travellers.”
