Digi Sport, the Romanian pay-television broadcaster, has retained rights to show Spanish soccer’s top-tier LaLiga, in a three-year deal running until 2024.
Digi Sport has held LaLiga rights in Romania since 2015, initially exclusively and in the current cycle in a deal also involving other broadcasters Telekom Sport and Look Sport.
Matches will be broadcast on the Digi Sport channel, and Digi Sport 4K, the network's high-definition offering.
It has yet to be clarified if the Digi Sport coverage will continue alongside that of the other two broadcasters.
Digi Sport also has rights in Romania to domestic soccer's Liga 1 and Liga 2 competitions and Europe's Uefa Champions League and Europa League.
Mircea Sai, Digi Sport’s project manager, said: “We are pleased to bring Digi subscribers the good news of the extension of LaLiga broadcasting rights… which contributes to the performance of the Digi Sport TV platform.”

By GlobalDataThe tender for LaLiga rights in Romania – and 10 other European countries – was launched in June last year, with the league willing to accept deals of between three and five years.
The league is coming to the end of its European rights sales process, and GlobalData Sport understands it will be announcing at least one more, likely to be for five years, in the near future.
LaLiga is now able to take advantage of amendments to the text of Spain’s Royal Decree governing the sale of centralised rights, which had previously limited it to signing three-year deals in Europe.
The full list of countries covered by the June 2020 sales process was Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands and Romania in the European Economic Area, and Albania, Kosovo, Russia and Switzerland (including Liechtenstein non-exclusively) outside.
Deals have already been struck in those markets with the likes of Ziggo in the Netherlands, and Blue+ (formerly Teleclub) in Switzerland.
Mediapro, the Spanish agency, is the partner of LaLiga for the distribution of international rights under a five-year deal running to 2023-24.
In the last few weeks, LaLiga has agreed new deals or renewals with major broadcasters DAZN in Germany and Austria, BeIN Sports in France and ESPN in the US and Canada.
