The BBC, the UK’s public service broadcaster, has been selected as the host broadcaster for next year’s World Gymnastics Championships.

The event, which will be the largest ever held in the city, is scheduled to take place at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, UK, from 29 October to 6 November 2022.

It will act as a qualifying event for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

This year’s championships were held in Japan and broadcast to a global audience of more than 664 million.

Barbara Slater, director at BBC, said: "In a fantastic year of sport on the BBC, we are delighted to add another prestigious event that will connect a World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool to the widest possible audience."
