The Paris 2024 organizing committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which took place in the French capital last year, has recorded a final profit of €76 million ($86.8 million).

The games' organizing committee is set to present this number at its last-ever board meeting on June 17, it has now announced to the media.

It had originally been announced late last year that the Olympics and Paralympics would have a final profit of around €27 million, but that number has now nearly tripled.

The 2024 Summer Olympics took place in the French capital between July 26 and August 8, with the Paralympics following from August 28 to September 8.

The initial budget for the games was set at €3.8 billion, before regular upwards adjustments, including for €400 million in December 2022, were made to account for factors including inflation.

The final figures are expected to be as follows: a final revenue figure of €4.49 billion and total expenditure of €4.41 billion.

In terms of where the profits will go, 60% – Estanguet has claimed – will go to the Paris 2024 endowment fund, with the remaining 40% divided equally between the organizing committee itself and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Some of the latter portion could then go to funding the 2030 Winter Olympics, which are set to take place in the French Alps.

Tony Estanguet, head of the organizing committee, has said: "This is excellent news, and we are very proud to share it with our board members in a few days. This money is going to sport, and it is a hugely important legacy in a [budgetary] climate for sport that we know is challenging."
