The European Handball Federation (EHF) has received interest from 11 nations to host the men’s and women’s European Championship events in 2034.

This came after the period to send a letter of interest to the EHF governing body ended on Wednesday.

The Faroe Islands and Luxembourg are two federations among those interested who have never hosted an EHF Euro.

Luxembourg is also one of four federations that have sent a letter of interest for both the men’s and women’s EHF Euro. The other three are Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

Alongside those countries, Austria, Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Türkiye are also interested in hosting the men’s tournament.

The Faroe Islands are the other nation in the running to stage the women’s tournament.

The men’s event is scheduled from 10 to 29 January 2034, while the women’s championship will run from 28 November to 17 December.

Following the bid timeline, the 11 federations have until 1 March 2027 to submit an official bid. The bids will then be evaluated, and the 2034 EHF Euros will be awarded by the EHF Congress, which takes place on 18 September 2027 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Martin Hausleitner, EHF secretary general, said: “The high interest from our member federations in hosting the EHF Euros in 2034 confirms the continuous appeal of our flagship national team event to promote and develop handball across Europe.

“The EHF is proud to not only see federations expressing their interest, which have a long and rich tradition of hosting, but with Faroe Islands and Luxembourg also two which have never hosted an EHF Euro before. The line-up of hosts until 2032 is very strong, and 2034 will be no difference in this regard.”

The EHF Euros until 2032 have been awarded to the following hosts:

  • Women’s EHF Euro 2026: Poland, Romania, Czechia, Slovakia, Türkiye
  • Men’s EHF Euro 2028: Spain, Portugal, Switzerland
  • Women’s EHF Euro 2028: Norway, Denmark, Sweden
  • Men’s EHF Euro 2030: Czechia, Poland, Denmark
  • Women’s EHF Euro 2030: France, Belgium
  • Men’s EHF Euro 2032: Germany, France
  • Women’s EHF Euro 2032: Germany, Denmark, Poland

This year’s men’s event was hosted by Denmark, Norway, and Sweden between January 15 and February 1. The 2026 women’s edition will take place from December 3 to 20.
