
North American basketball’s top-tier esports NBA 2K League has partnered with Meta, the parent company of social media giants Facebook and Instagram.
Under the multi-year deal, 20 nights of NBA 2K League matches will be streamed live within a virtual reality (VR) environment on Meta’s platforms, effective immediately, through the 2023 season.
Fans can view the coverage with Meta Quest VR Headsets in its NBA Arena area within the Meta Horizon Worlds and Xtadium applications. These will be shared watching experiences in sports hubs.
NBA 2K League head of business development Lindsay Ullman said: “The NBA 2K League takes great pride in always seeking to be an innovative leader in sports. Our partnership with Meta allows our fans, who are highly engaged and passionate about our product, an amazing new way to experience the NBA 2K League using the cutting-edge technology that is the Meta Quest VR Headset through Horizon Worlds and in the Xtadium app.”
The 2023 season of the NBA 2K League began on April 13 with the NBA2KL 3v3 Switch Open and runs until August 5 with the NBA 2K League 5v5 Finals.
Other NBA 2K League partners include Anheuser-Busch, AT&T, Champion Athleticwear, Coinbase, Google, Loco, Mondelēz International, SAP, Snickers, Sony Interactive Entertainment, SPS, Wilson, and YouTube.

By GlobalDataMeta recently also extended its partnership with the NBA itself to show 52 live games on its VR platforms.
Meanwhile, US streaming platform Peacock is now available on the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro VR headsets for US residents and within certain US territories.
The deal makes Peacock available via a VR headset for the first time. It includes Peacock’s sports coverage, such as Major League Baseball, NFL American football, Big Ten American football, English soccer’s top-tier Premier League, motor racing, golf, and WWE wrestling.
