UBS announces its sponsorship of the Louis Vuitton Cup 2002-03, joining Louis Vuitton Watches and BMW as one of the four key sponsors of the challenger series for the America’s Cup.

Taking place in Auckland, New Zealand, over five months from October 2002, the Louis Vuitton Cup will see nine challenging syndicates competing for the right to challenge Team New Zealand to the America’s Cup in February 2003. As a partner to the Louis Vuitton Cup, UBS enjoys association with one of the biggest and most prestigious events in the sailing calendar.

UBS’s sponsorship represents an ongoing commitment to sailing from the global financial services company headquartered in Switzerland and will see the Louis Vuitton Cup join a premier portfolio including the Alinghi Swiss Challenge to the America’s Cup 2003 and previously the Nautor Challenge syndicate in the Volvo Ocean Race 2001-2.

UBS’s support of the America’s Cup (via sponsorship of an America’s Cup syndicate and now the Louis Vuitton Cup), will also be highlighted as a key partner to the Louis Vuitton exhibition. Celebrating 150 years of the America’s Cup, this highly stylised and interactive travelling exhibition, is visiting the major capitals of the world over the next 12 months.

Speaking on its support of the Louis Vuitton Cup, Marcel Ospel, Chairman, UBS AG, comments: ‘We are delighted to be able to support such a well known and revered event. Sailing at this level and the natural synergies with our business lends itself well to communicating our brand and business values to target audiences, globally. Sailing and ‘the Power of Partnership’ will continue to be a key communication platform for our brand’.

Speaking on behalf of the Louis Vuitton Cup, Communications Director Bruno Trouble said, ‘As usual the Louis Vuitton Cup will be very exciting with strong teams and ‘huge’ individuals involved. We are very glad that UBS has come on board as a partner – their commitment to sailing and their long involvement with our sport, will help us mount one of the most memorable events to date’.
