Uefa Chooses Venues for Champions League and Uefa Cup Finals

The UEFA Executive Committee chaired by UEFA President, Lennart Johansson, completed a busy agenda today ahead of the start of the XXVII Ordinary UEFA Congress, to be held on Thursday at the Cavalieri Hilton Hotel in Rome, Italy.

The Executive Committee:

  • approved the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany as the venue for the 2004 UEFA Champions League Final and the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden as the venue for the 2004 UEFA Cup Final
  • agreed to decide on the hosts for the 2005 UEFA Club Competition Finals in December 2003
  • received positive reports on the progress being made in the preparations for UEFA EURO 2004 TM and the sale of UEFA Champions League TV rights 2003 – 2006
  • agreed to look into the format of the next qualifying competition of the UEFA European Football Championship in order to consider a better use of international friendly dates in future; and
  • completed preparations for Thursday’s UEFA Congress
  • In addition the Executive Committee received a report from the UEFA CEO on his intention to retire in December 2003 (see Media Release No. 046) and expressed their gratitude and thanks for his many years of magnificent service.
