A workshop focusing on how sporting events can drive social change will be hosted by Sportcal at SportAccord 2018 in Bangkok tomorrow, Wednesday 18th April.

Social initiatives have become embedded in the organisation of major sporting events. Sport has the power to bring communities together and to drive social change, but how exactly can this be achieved by event hosts?

As part of its GSI Event Studies Programme, Sportcal conducted an in-depth analysis of event impacts for event owners and hosts throughout 2017. Twenty world championships and multisport games were studied – ranging from The World Games and the Summer Universiade to flagship events from AIBA, FIE, FIS, IFF, ITTF, UWW, World Archery and World Taekwondo. And there are some fascinating stories to tell…

The Sportcal workshop is designed to connect event owners, organisers and hosts to enable both knowledge exchange and a discussion on the social impact and cultural engagement generated by sporting events.

The workshop will cover:

•             Examples of best practice from around the world

•             Diverse case studies

•             Knowledge transfer

•             Inspiration for your events

The workshop will act as the first annual review of Sportcal’s GSI Event Studies Programme, which helps event owners and hosts understand the true impact of their events across a wide range of sectors, and supports them in the further development of their event strategies.

The workshop will take place in Conference Room 2, from 11:00 – 12:30 on Wednesday 18th April 2018.
