Australian Vee Eight Supercar Company (AVESCO) today announced a five-year television contract that will see Network Ten secure telecast rights to Australia’s premier motorsport category V8 Supercars until the end of 2006.
The multi-year deal will see V8 Supercars enjoy more hours of free-to-air coverage than ever before. The introduction of multiview also brings a new dimension to Ten’s sports coverage. In selected events, fans can find out how their favourite driver is faring by switching to another multiview channel and choose to watch the race from another perspective featuring in-car cameras and pit lane activity. Network Ten is the market leader in multiview offering more multiview broadcasts than any other network.
Network Ten will also be home to Australia’s premier football code, AFL, next year providing outstanding benefits to all parties. However, this will not impact on the live V8 coverage with the AFL telecasts being scheduled around the V8 Supercar series.
The AVESCO Board is delighted to have agreed to terms with Network Ten and is looking forward to planning V8 Supercars future with a high level of confidence given the signing of this multi-million dollar deal.
AVESCO Chairman Tony Cochrane says ‘In the last five years V8 Supercars have positioned themselves as one of the leading national sports in this country.
‘Couple this with our live coverage in New Zealand and to over 400 million homes around the globe and you have a very impressive performance.
‘It is fantastic AFL will be joining V8 Supercars on Network Ten as both sports will benefit greatly from the cross promotional opportunities that will arise,’ Cochrane went on to add.
As we enter an exciting new era for V8 Supercars Network Ten will step up their obligation to provide V8 Supercar fans with the most superior coverage of both series.
The Konica V8 Supercar Series races will continue to be telecast on a delayed basis and a special end of year wrap up program featuring the prestigious Gala Awards Dinner will be added to the schedule.
Network Ten’s general manager, sport, Mr David White, said ‘we have cemented ourselves as the home of motorsport through our commitment to all categories and V8 Supercars are the major component in the sport. We are very proud of our current broadcasts and with the advent of multiview, the audience will be introduced to an even better viewing experience’.
‘V8 Supercars have gone from strength to strength and with all parties continuing to improve the sport, it is an exciting future to look forward to’.
