British Olympic Association Announce Triathletes to Compete for Team GB in the Sydney Olympic Games

The British Olympic Association is pleased to announce that the following triathletes have been selected to represent Great Britain as members of Team GB at the forthcoming Olympic Games in Sydney.

Men: Andrew Johns, Tim Don

Women: Julie Dibens

These athletes join team mates Simon Lessing, Sian Brice and Stephanie Forrester, who have been previously announced as members of the Great Britain Olympic Team.

This will be the first ever Olympic Triathlon competition and will take place in the shadow of the world famous Sydney Opera House in the heart of the City.

Simon Clegg, Team GB’s Chef de Mission for the Sydney Olympic Games, said: ‘The British Olympic Association is delighted to welcome these triathletes into Team GB for the Sydney Olympic Games, especially as this is the first occasion that triathlon will be an Olympic sport. We hope these athletes, along with their team mates Simon Lessing, Sian Brice and Stephanie Forrester, will carry on the good form they have shown on the international circuit over the last few years.’

Andrew Johns
Date of Birth: 23 September 1973
Best performances: European champion in 1998, Winner of the World Cup in 1999, winner of the European Cup in 1999, 4th at the World Championship 1999.
Andrew started to compete for GB three years ago. In 1999, he was considered to be the most consistent athlete on the Series. Andrew bases himself in Switzerland where he trains in an international group.

Tim Don
Date of Birth: 14 January 1978
Best Performances: 1st at Windsor and 6th at European Championships 2000 (Selection Races), Gold at World Junior Championships in 1998.
Based in Middlesex, where Tim does most of his training.
His father is the football referee Philip Don.

Julie Dibens
Date of Birth: 4 March 1975
Her parents live in Salisbury and Julie now lives in the USA with her husband, whom she married earlier this year. Her maiden name was Julie Rickets.
Best Performance: 3rd in European Championship 2000 (Selection Race). In 1998 and 1999 she achieved a number of top three spots in the USA Triathlon series.
