‘We’re back where we deserve to be, and it feels great,’ said Cosmos FC chairman Danny Moulis, on the long-awaited announcement that the club would take its place in next season’s National Soccer League.

The club this evening received a letter from Soccer Australia advising that the Soccer Australia Board had agreed to issue a license to Cosmos as one of two additional teams to participate in the 2001/2002 competition, the other to be issued to the Brisbane Strikers. Cosmos directors have been working hard
behind the scenes to make this happen.

‘There is a strong trend for reform of so many aspects of Australian soccer, and it was very important for us to
deal with Canberra’s representation in the NSL as a critical threshold issue,’ Moulis said.

‘We came out fighting in a fortnight of active protest immediately after the exclusion of Canberra and Brisbane was announced. That lit the fire, then Soccer Australia had to find a way to put it out. Over the past two weeks
it has been necessary to work closely with our fellow clubs and with the Soccer Australia administration to achieve our objective,’ said the Cosmos chairman.

On behalf of Cosmos, all of its directors, its staff and its players, Moulis expressed the club’s heartfelt appreciation to all of its supporters: the fans in the stand, Soccer Canberra, regional politicians, the ACT Government and the Chief Minister himself.

‘Campaigns were waged at all levels, in all different media, and with many targets. Our aim was true, and we have our reward. Now we have to make the best of the future which has opened up for us,’ he said.

The Cosmos Board will be meeting as soon as possible to activate the club’s plans for the season to come and to re-ignite the great passion and commitment which delivered the club it’s best ever season in 2000/01.

‘Canberra has voted with its heart, now we all have to back up our commitment with the best preparation, the best promotions, and the best team we can deliver with the financial resources we can muster. Everyone can help, so watch out for our membership clubs and let’s convert our hunger for success into results,’ said Moulis.
