In February and March this year the Qualifications for the 2000 Invacare World Team Cup and the 2000 Paralympic Games are being conducted in three different world Regions: Asia/Oceania (7 countries competing), Europe/Africa (15 countries competing) and America (7 countries competing). The winners of the three qualification zones automatically qualify for the Paralympic Games in Sydney. The other three positions will be decided upon completion of all three qualification rounds, taking into account the number of countries participating in each round and the level of play of the qualifying countries. The top two countries in Asia/Oceania and America and the top four countries in Europe will automatically qualify for the 2000 Invacare World Team Cup in Paris, France. The same criteria as for the Paralympics is used to decide the remaining eight places. From the 14 th -17 th of February the 2 nd Malaysian Open was held with 65 players from 14 countries participating. The tournament was a great success and Fabian Mazzel (ITA) and Branka Pupovac (AUS) were the winners for the men and women in the Open division. From the 18 th -21 st of February the Malaysian Open was followed by the first Qualification Round of the 2000 Invacare World Team Cup and the 2000 Paralympic Games which was staged in National Tennis Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. After a late withdrawal by the Philippines, seven countries participated. Ties were played in two pools. After some great competition in Malaysia, Chinese Taipei qualified for the Paralympic Games and the 2000 Invacare World Team Cup and New Zealand qualified for a position at the Invacare World Team Cup. Final Positions: Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Malaysia, Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, Singapore.
