Deutsche Bank Extends its Sponsorship of the TPC of Europe

The 2005 Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe will feature an increased prize fund of €3,300,000, one of the biggest tournament prize funds in Continental Europe on the 2005 European Tour International Schedule.

The increase, up €300,000 on the figure contested for this year when Trevor Immelman won the TPC of Europe, coincides with the increased commitment of title sponsor, Deutsche Bank AG, to the event until 2008.

The rise in prize money is only one of several changes planned for one of the premier events on The European Tour which will return to German soil for the 11th consecutive year.

As well as the new tournament title, the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe will also feature a new date, July 21-24, the week after the 134th Open Golf Championship at St Andrews, and a return to the Gut Kaden course in Hamburg, which last hosted the event in 2003 when Padraig Harrington beat Thomas Björn in a play-off.

The move from its traditional May slot in the calendar will also coincide with the optimum time for good weather in Germany and, as a result, will allow the Gut Kaden course to best exhibit the fruits of the agronomy programme commenced in the Spring of 2003.

Ken Schofield, Executive Director of The European Tour, said: ‘Deutsche Bank AG has been a title sponsor within the framework of The European Tour for ten years and has contributed substantially to the growth and success of a superb golf tournament.

‘We are proud that the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe will offer an increased prize money to some of the world’s best golfers over the next four years, thus enabling it to remain as one of the premier events of the season.’

Hanns Michael Hoelz, Managing Director of Deutsche Bank AG, said: ‘We are proud to sponsor one of the most important tournaments in Europe for the next four years.

‘Deutsche Bank AG has given its name to this tournament since 1995, the first time it was played on German soil, and by extending the title sponsorship, Deutsche Bank AG will continue its successful commitment to golf in Europe.’

Harald Hartmann, Managing Director of Fairway Marketing GmbH, Organiser and Promoter of the event, said: ‘We are enormously happy to have managed to find such an attractive date on The European Tour calendar.

‘This week, following the Open Championship in Britain, underlines the significance the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe has on the global calendar.’
