Eurosport announced today that it has launched its 18th language version specifically for Greek-speaking viewers. The Greek language version is now available to 1.8 million households throughout Greece, who had previously been receiving the English language version.

The Greek-language version has been tested for the last year and has resulted in the creation of a new partnership with the Sigelydes Group, and its long-term representative Christos Anastassiadis. The Greek commentary will initially be 6 hours a day, increasing gradually to reach 100% of programming hours.

Eurosport’s Greek version will also be available to an even wider audience throughout the country via a satellite platform shortly. In addition, Eurosportnews, the sports news channel launched by Eurosport in September 2000, which is now present in 34 countries, is also expected to make its debut in Greece with a local language version before the end of 2001.

Angelo Codignoni, President of Eurosport commented; ‘A Greek Eurosport is particularly well-timed as Athens prepares to host the Summer Olympic Games in 2004. The launch of the Greek version marks a decisive step by Eurosport to increase presence in the area in the run-up to one of the biggest events of the decade.’
