FIBA to Decide on 2010 World Championship Host

FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, will meet in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to decide on the host for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

The decision will be between the three bidding countries from France, Turkey and the combined bid
from the former Yugoslav Republics (Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia & Montenegro and Slovenia).

Initially FIBA received bids from 7 countries, but during 2004 Australia and New Zealand as well as Italy, Puerto Rico and Russia withdrew their bids.

The three bidding countries will present their bid to the Central Board members on 5th December. The presentations will be followed by a report from the FIBA evaluation Commission headed by FIBA first Vice President Bob Elphinston. The Central Board will then decide by voting of its 20 members.

FIBA will make the announcement about the host of the 2010 FIBA World Championship on 5th December 2004 in Kuala Lumpur at 14:00 hours local time (7am Central European time). FIBA will inform the media with a press release, but the result can also be viewed on fiba.com.
