FIFA and the local organizing committees in Korea (KOWOC) and in Japan (JAWOC) together with the FIFA World Cup Ticketing Bureau (WCTB, operated by Byrom plc on behalf of FIFA), finalized today 12 June during separate meetings in Seoul and Tokyo the ticketing arrangements for the round of 16 and the quarterfinals at the 2002 FIFA World Cup(tm).
As per the FIFA World Cup(tm) regulations, eight per cent of the purchasable tickets for each match are allocated to each of the two national associations competing in the respective game.
In Japan, for the round of 16 and the quarterfinals, 1,000 tickets will be reserved for each qualifying national association in addition to purchases already made out of this quota of eight per cent. These tickets must be
purchased by 2.00 p.m. on the day following the day of the match in which the respective national association’s team qualified. Tickets out of the association’s quota that are not sold will then be put on sale to the public through the official FIFA World Cup(tm) ticketing website at
www.fifatickets.com
The remaining unsold tickets will be put on sale as per the same arrangements that had been agreed upon for a certain number of matches of the first round, that is to say via separate channels with the available inventories split on a 50:50 basis for sales over the phone by JAWOC and over the internet.
In Korea, the tickets not yet sold to the associations as part of the their eight per cent quota will be retained for the association until 2.00 pm on the day following the day of the match in which the respective national association’s team qualified. Unsold tickets will then be released for sale to the public.
FIFA, KOWOC and the WCTB will decide on a match-by-match basis regarding the timing and the number of tickets that will be printed and handed over to KOWOC for over-the-counter sales.
In order to ensure maximum purchasing opportunities, all remaining unsold tickets will be made available for purchase in the box office at the stadium on the day of the match.
