Former Olympic Athlete Sarah Rowell to Join Wharton Consulting

Dr Sarah Rowell, the former Olympic Marathon runner and British record holder for the event, world mountain running silver medallist and British fell running champion, is to join Wharton Consulting, the Harrogate-based strategic sports consultancy which is headed by former Rugby Football League Chief Executive Neil Tunnicliffe and former Wigan Warriors RLFC Chief Executive Sally Bolton.

Sarah holds a PhD in sports injuries and exercise physiology, and currently operates her own consultancy whose clients include the Youth Sport Trust, the British Paralympic Association and sportscoach UK. She is also a technical consultant to the English Institute of Sport, and a World Class Adviser to Sport England and UK Sport, and is the author of a number of sports science publications.

Prior to establishing her consultancy, Sarah spent nearly ten years at the National Coaching Foundation, where she ran the sport science education and support programmes. She has also served in a variety of capacities for the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, and as elite athlete liaison officer for the London Marathon. She is a member of the British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine, and currently serves as Chairman of Selectors for UK:Athletics’ mountain running teams.

Current clients include UK:Athletics, England Rugby Ltd (the joint venture between the Rugby Football Union and the Zurich Premiership clubs), the Rugby Football League, the Great Britain Olympic Hockey Board and the British Paralympic Association.
