Hammonds is delighted to announce the appointment of two partners from Olswang: EU and competition law partner, Alasdair Bell, and sports and advertising/marketing law partner Louise Quinn, who are both joining the firm’s London office.

Alasdair Bell has over ten years of experience in EU & competition law, having worked in Brussels and London for White & Case. He will be working alongside Hammonds’ Brussels office to build a significant competition practice in London. Bell will head the London competition practice with a team of three other fee earners. He has significant experience in all areas of EC law, particularly competition, state aid, merger control and international trade. Bell also has strong links with international sports bodies and has dealt with some of the leading EU competition law cases concerning football, which dovetails well with Hammonds’ leading sports law practice.

Louise Quinn will join Hammonds’ Commercial & IP department, which is headed by Andrew Clay and which incorporates Jonathan Taylor’s Sports Group. Quinn specialises in sports law and advertising/marketing law and has extensive experience of advising on the acquisition and exploitation of media and commercial rights to major sporting assets. This includes negotiation of media rights, agency, sponsorship and naming rights agreements, official supplier and merchandising agreements and the development and implementation of anti-ambush marketing strategies. She also advises on tenders and bidding processes and documentation, event staging arrangements, endorsement agreements marketing issues, event, media and team/club sponsorship agreements and broadcast production and distribution arrangements. On the advertising/marketing law side, Quinn carries out a wide range of commercial work for all types of above and below the line agencies, media owners and well-known brands.

Commenting on Bell’s appointment, José Rivas, head of the competition law team, says: ‘Hammonds’ clients have traditionally benefited from top quality competition advice from the firm’s Brussels office. Alasdair’s appointment ensures that there are now two centres of excellence in competition law at the firm’.

Commenting on the appointment of Louise Quinn, Jonathan Taylor, Head of Hammonds’ Sports Group, says: ‘Louise has built a strong reputation and client base in the sports sector in recent years and is a worthy addition to our team. Coupled with Alasdair’s experience and experience in EC law and sport, these two appointments consolidate and confirm Hammonds’ Sports Group’s pre-eminent position in the sports sector.’
