IAAF Gets New Structure
MONACO – Monte Carlo – After almost 2 years of meticulous and painstaking analysis, discussions and deliberations, the IAAF has completed a process of restructuring. The basic goal, agreed by Council in February 2000, was to
evaluate the organisation and structure of the IAAF in an attempt to improve performance and capacities in four areas:
Events and Marketing;
Member Services;
Communication;
Corporate Services.
In the new staff structure there are 53 members of staff – 29 women and 24 men – and 13 languages are spoken. The General Secretary, Istvan Gyulai (HUN), manages the work of the General Secretariat and the four new departments, and implements the policy established by the President of the IAAF and members of Council: (the elected representatives of the IAAF’s Member Federations).
Events and Marketing is led by Pierre Weiss (FRA), formerly General Director, and includes a Competitions Division led by Sandro Giovannelli (ITA) and a Broadcasting Division, headed by Ernest Obeng (GBR). The new Marketing Co-ordinator is Sue Richardson (GBR).
Nick Davies (GBR) is the new Director of the Communications Department and his Deputy is Anna Legnani (ITA). Member Services is led by Bjorn Wangemann (GER). The former Co-Director of the Development Department Elio Locatelli (ITA) is now working for the Turin Winter Olympics Organising Committee. Corporate Services has a new Director in Roberto Outeirino (ESP), with Charline Hering (FRA) as his Deputy.
