Injury hits Thomas & Uber Cup Seeds

Injuries have forced some of the top teams in the upcoming Thomas & Uber Cup First and Semi-Final stages to make 11th hour changes to their teams. England’s Jo Goode has been forced to withdraw from a top event once more as a result of the same back injury which ruined her World Grand Prix Final hopes back in December – Gail Emms will take her place. Disappointment as well for Denmark’s Peter Rasmussen, who also misses out through injury. Anders Boesen, currently ranked at number 21 after quarter-finals places in Chinese Taipei and Korea, will compete in his place. Over at the New Delhi venue, the Indonesian camp are having to prepare without world number 13 Cindana Hartono Kusuma – she’s replaced by Yuli Marfuah, semi-finalist in September’s Indonesian Open, and currently ranked at 47. But perhaps the biggest loss of the tournament will be faced by the Netherlands, whose adopted daughter Mia Audina Tjiptawan is unable to represent her new country in the Uber Cup (as per IBF Regulations for Competitions 5.2). Stay with World Badminton Online for all the news and results from BOTH venues of the Thomas & Uber Cup – IBF’s premier team events – which kick off on Sunday 13th February.
